2020 will be remembered for a long time for all kinds of reasons. If you're an auto enthusiast, however, it's likely that one of the things that will be remembered is the return of the Ford Bronco, a legendary model known to any car enthusiast. The new 2021 Ford Bronco hit the market in July after several delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the wait was certainly worth it.
Today we want to see how the 2021 Ford Bronco stacks up against its perennial rival, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Let's start under the hood.
More powerful engines for the 2021 Ford Bronco
The Jeep Wrangler comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine developing 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque mated to either an 8-speed automatic or a six-speed manual. It also offers a turbo four-cylinder engine with 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
The 2021 Ford Bronco comes standard with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine shared with the Ford Ranger that develops 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. If the horsepower is a little less, the torque (what matters most) is greater in the base Bronco and delivered at lower revs. Result? The 2021 Ford Bronco is more powerful and will feel faster due to its more torque delivered at lower revs.
The 2021 Ford Bronco’s optional engine is a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that develops 310 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. Far more powerful than any engine offered in the Jeep Wrangler, this engine promises stunning performance.
We should also mention that the Ford Bronco 2021 is available with a 7-speed manual transmission compared to 6-speed for the Wrangler.
In terms of off-road capabilities, it is clear that the two models are similar in terms of their performance off the beaten track. That said, during trial runs conducted over the past few months we've seen several examples of Wranglers unable to keep up with the Bronco on various terrains. One of the reasons for this could be the fact that the Bronco with the Sasquatch package offers performance Biltstein shocks that the Wrangler has no answer for. Plus, the Sasquatch package adds the biggest 35-inch tires in the segment.
More powerful and more rugged, the Ford Bronco is also easier to convert to a true off-roader and it is easier to remove the doors and side mirrors.
In other words, the 2021 Ford Bronco is more powerful (much more powerful when you compare six-cylinder engines) and performs well away on off-road trails. It is also one of the most anticipated models of the year which ensures excellent resale value. Contact us today to find out more about the new Ford Bronco 2021!
