It’s the least powerful of the Explorer lineup, but it has more power and torque than the Highlander's more powerful engine.

The Platinum also gets a 3.0-liter six-cylinder that delivers 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. The Limited offers two hybrid engines, either a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter six-cylinder or a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder.

The 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque from the Highlander's 3.5-liter six-cylinder is not enough to compete. The Highlander's hybrid engine doesn't get any better.

The Explorer has better horsepower, but it also has the best drivetrain. Each model is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which outperforms the Highlander's eight-speed automatic.
