A Quick Look at the Impressive 2025 Ford Mustang GTD

Ford recently unveiled the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD, an extreme version of the iconic muscle car that will act as the spiritual successor to the discontinued Ford GT. Here is what you can expect from this limited-production sports car.

800 horsepower and 50/50 weight distribution

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD aims to take on the best from European supercar brands with a totally new vehicle architecture that promotes near-perfect weight distribution and more power than any road-legal Mustang before. Indeed, despite its body which clearly looks related to the new 2024 Mustang GT, the GTD version features an entirely different chassis which places its engine closer to the middle of the car in order to improve its weight distribution and thus handling. To do so, the Mustang GTD also features a unique 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle that is mounted on the rear axle and receives the engine’s power via a carbon fibre driveshaft. Speaking of the engine, this upcoming supercar will retain the services of a 5.2L supercharged V8 that should deliver close to a targeted 800 horsepower output.

Racing-inspired design

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is directly inspired by the Mustang GT3 race car that will tackle Le Mans next year, and this is not only evident in its platform and powertrain. Indeed, the Mustang GTD features a unique external appearance that is very close to the regular production model while being unmistakably more aggressive and made for the track. The most striking example of a race-inspired element is the large rear wing which gives the Mustang GTD a unique appearance that clearly shows its performance potential. Of course, this wing is not just for aesthetics as it dramatically improves downforce and grip at high speeds thanks to its hydraulically controlled active design.

Advanced technical solutions

In addition to its powerful engine and carefully engineered aerodynamics, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD can also count on its many other advanced technical solutions in order to beat the champions in its class. For example, the space occupied by the trunk in a regular production Mustang is allocated to the hardware for the active suspension system, a hydraulic control module, and cooling equipment for the transaxle. By varying spring rates and ride height at all times, this active suspension makes the Mustang GTD as fast around corners as it is on straight lines.
