A Quick Look at the Powertrain Options in the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

If you are looking to buy a new electric vehicle, you have probably noticed that there are a lot of things to know about every model to make an informed decision, such as range, charging rates, battery size, and powertrain configuration, among others. This guide will make you discover these aspects of the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, an impressive crossover that blends the practicality of an SUV with the performance of a Mustang. Here are the main things to know about its numerous powertrain options:

From 360 to 502 kilometers of range

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is offered in a variety of drivetrain configurations that provide more or less driving range on a full charge. For example, the Select and Premium trim levels offer two Standard range batteries and a choice of rear or all-wheel drive setups. With the RWD configuration, these models can drive up to 397 kilometers with the 70 kWh battery or 402 kilometers with the slightly larger 72 kWh unit. When equipped with AWD, these models see their range decrease to 360 or 364 kilometers depending on the battery.

The Premium trim level also offers the option of an Extended Range battery with a capacity of 91 kWh that makes it possible to drive 492 kilometers on a charge with the rear-wheel drive model or up to 467 kilometers with the all-wheel drive version.

The GT Performance Edition comes standard with AWD and the larger battery, but its impressive level of performance comes at the cost of some range when compared to other models with a similar powertrain. This is why the GT Performance Edition offers up to 418 kilometers of range.

The longest range available in the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with the California Route 1 version, which is only available with the 91 kWh battery and the AWD powertrain. This combination makes it possible for the Mach-E to drive up to 502 kilometers between charges.

Up to 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque

As you can see, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E has several different versions to offer, many of which come with alterations to the powertrain. This is true on the aspect of range, and it is also true when talking about performance. Since any vehicle wearing the Mustang name needs to have the performance to back it up, every version of the Mustang Mach-E benefits from an impressive level of power and torque.

Indeed, the entry-level Select RWD model, as well as the Premium RWD, deliver as much as 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Choosing all-wheel drive with the 70-kWh battery results in the same 266 horsepower figure but an increased 428 lb-ft of torque, while doing the same with the 72-kWh battery allows for a power output of 311 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque.

Combining the 91 kWh Extended Range battery with the single motor RWD setup results in 290 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, and the same battery paired with the AWD dual motor system makes for 346 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque.

Of course, the GT Performance Edition stands out to make honor to its name, with the same 91 kWh battery and AWD system generating 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque.

Fast and convenient charging

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is engineered to make charging more convenient and quicker than in many of its rivals. For this reason, every Mach-E is compatible with charging solutions ranging from 120-volt residential outlets to roadside DC fast-chargers.

With the available 120/240 volt charging cord, you can charge your Mach-E by using any regular 120-volt outlet in order to top off the battery before a long trip for example. Since this solution is quite slow and might not work for everyone, the same charging cable can be used in a 240-volt outlet like the ones your oven and drier are plugged into, which can fully charge the battery overnight.

Level 2 charging stations, which you can find at home or at most public places will also be able to charge your Mustang Mach-E in a matter of about 10.9 hours.

If you are out on a longer trip, you might need to stop at a level 3 DC-fast charging station. Usually found in busy areas such as on the side of major highways, these chargers can deliver enough power to charge your battery from 10 to 80% in about 38 minutes with the 70 kWh battery and its 115 kW maximum charging rate. If you own a Mustang Mach-E equipped with the 91 kWh battery, you will be able to achieve the same state of charge in about 45 minutes thanks to a faster 150 kW charge rate.
